In today’s digital age, it appears that we have a generation of social media engagers who are increasingly more attracted to the outrageous, the dysfunctional, and at times, the downright questionable content that floods our platforms. For those of us who use social media as a tool to uplift, educate, and encourage others, it can often feel like our message is being drowned out in the noise. We post meaningful content, yet the views remain low. We share truth and inspiration, yet the clicks and shares are few.
It’s easy to feel invisible in a sea of viral nonsense

But the question is: why?
Why would someone be drawn more to the negative than the positive? I recently watched a short video where the creator said, “Y’all talking ’bout me, but y’all only have two views.” The crazy part? She’s not wrong. Some of the people talking about her may not have a visible platform or any influence online—yet she has over a million followers. Some of her videos are only five seconds long, but they have thousands—if not millions—of views. That kind of engagement raises a deeper question: what is happening in our culture that makes dysfunction trend more than development?

What draws the masses to chaos more than character?
The truth is, negativity is often sensationalized. It's easier to react than reflect. Shock captures attention. Substance requires contemplation. And in an era of scrolls and swipes, attention spans are often too short for anything that requires depth.
So what can we do When Positive Feels Powerless?
Keep posting.
Keep delivering.
Keep doing what you're doing.
The Bible says in Psalm 37:3,
“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness.” (NKJV)

Let’s pause on the phrase “do good.” The Hebrew word for “good” in this verse is טוֹב (tov), which means:
Morally excellent
Pleasant, fruitful, and beneficial
In harmony with God’s nature and design
Doing good isn’t just about kindness or being nice—it’s about living and creating in a way that promotes wholeness, wellness, righteousness, and divine alignment.
It’s kingdom work—even if the algorithms don’t reward it.
When positive feels powerless we are admonished to continue doing good. Even when the metrics don't reflect our impact. Even when dysfunction seems to be trending. Even when it feels like positivity is outdated or unpopular.
It may seem that what is less than satisfactory is prevailing.
But truth doesn’t always trend—it transforms. And transformation is always more powerful than trend.
So stay the course. Your words matter. Your message matters. Your presence on these platforms has purpose. Trust in the Lord, and keep doing good.
